An off-duty Omaha firefighter was killed in a motorcycle accident near Waterloo. Investigators say just before 12:30 am Friday a southbound pickup crossed the center line and hit a northbound motorcycle head on.
Douglas County authorities identified the motorcyclist as 37 year old Scott Peterson. He died at the scene. Authorities say the pick up driver was not hurt but taken to a hospital as they believe that alcohol or drugs may be involved.
Peterson had been a with the Omaha Fire Department for several years as well as a member of the Nebraska Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team and a HAZMAT technician.
Peterson leaves behind a wife and children.
