Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska is getting ready to end their contract with Catholic Health Initiatives hospitals in the state. BCBS Senior Vice President Pat Bourne says this is a matter of dollars and cents and those facilities charge anywhere from 10 to 30% more than other facilities for the same care.
Bourne says BCBS is in negotiations with Catholic Health Initiatives through August 31st and is hopeful a compromise will be reached. He says Blue Cross Blue Shield negotiates contracts each year with all health care facilities and hospitals. He says Blue Cross Blue Shield has an obligation to keep costs low for their customers.
This would impact several hospitals in the Omaha metro area as well as facilities in Papillion, Grand Island, Kearney, Plainview, Lincoln, Nebraska City and in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
