As Nebraska prepares for severe weather today the Nebraska Humane Society reminds pet owners that there are proactive things that can be done in case they become separated from their owner. Spokesperson Pam Wiese says they have learned through other weather related disasters that the best way to be reunited with a pet is to have it micro-chipped.
The Nebraska Humane Society will offer micro chipping for dogs and cats this Thursday at their Omaha facility for $10.
Wiese they also have a disaster plan in place in case the shelter and the metro area is hit by a severe storm. She says if the American Red Cross opens shelters in the Omaha metro area the Humane Society also steps up and provides a shelter for their pets nearby.
The Nebraska Humane Society is always in need of emergency shelter supplies and donations are welcome.
