Nebraska U.S. Senator Mike Johanns says no veteran should suffer because of problems plaguing the Veterans Administration. Johanns is co-sponsoring legislation called the Veteran’s Choice Act, which aims to help veterans get the care they need in wake of recent troubles within the VA system.
“Veterans would be allowed to seek care from a non-VA allowed provider of their choice,” Johanns suggests. “The bill also improves transparency and accountability at the VA.”
Senator Johanns says when you think what our veterans have done for our country, it’s important that we provide the medical care promised.
“No veteran should be in this position and suffering because of failures in the VA.”
Interim reports at the Phoenix VA alone were 115 days to see a primary care position, or nearly five times the normal wait limit of 24 days. Johanns says unfortunately, the reports also find that the problems were not limited to just Phoenix, and that 42 different VA facilities are now under investigation.
