Law enforcement agencies from throughout southeast Nebraska are looking for a vehicle and suspect involved in the shooting of a Richardson County Deputy early this morning.
Sheriff Randy Houser says Deputy Josh Nincehelser stopped a silver or tan Dodge Neon on a county road about a quarter-mile west of Highway 75 at around 2:00 AM.
As Deputy Nincehelser approached the vehicle to ask if the driver needed assistance, Houser says the suspect, a Hispanic male who did not speak English, fired several shots from a semi-automatic pistol.
One of the shots struck Nincehelser in the upper left arm and at least two bullets hit his patrol vehicle. Nincehelser returned fire before the vehicle fled north.
Nincehelser attempted to give chase, but ended the pursuit after a few miles when he realized he had been shot…and he could not see as his windshield had been shattered by at least three bullets.
The suspect is considered extremely dangerous and Houser says anyone from the public who sees the suspect should not attempt to apprehend him, but should contact the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office at 402-245-2479 or the Nebraska State Patrol at 402-471-4545.
Houser says Deputy Nincehelser is recovering from his wounds at a Lincoln hospital.
