Woman sentenced in assisted suicide case

June 13, 2014 By Nebraska Radio Network Contributor

The wife of a rural Cheyenne County man who helped him commit suicide will serve no more jail time.

Fifty-three-year-old Deann Kimble was handed a sentence Thursday of 79 days in jail, with full credit for time served, and 36 months of probation.

She was also ordered to perform 50 hours of community service. According to court documents, Kimble’s husband Russell made her agree to not intervene when Russell decided, “It was his time to die.”

Deann told investigators Russell fatally shot himself March 22 at their home in the Igloo storage complex believing he was gravely ill.

Deann Kimble wrapped the body in a shower curtain, dragged it behind a vehicle and dumped it with dirt, gravel and firewood as cover.
