The twin tornadoes that wiped out much of Pilger a week ago today also did heavy damage to the Wisner-Pilger Middle School, a second home to about 80 students and a dozen staff members.
School Superintendent Chad Boyer says assessment of the damage is underway by experts like the adjuster and a structural engineer.
“Certainly, some wheels are turning as far as what happens in the next five, ten, 30 days,” Boyer says. “Our focus right now is just on recovery, but I’ll say that our secondary focus, we have kids coming on August 14th and we’re gonna’ be ready.”
Boyer says everything in the building was exposed to wind, rain and hail. The roof and east side of the building were ripped away. Staff have salvaged personal items and whatever else they could, but Boyer says most supplies and technology were destroyed.
