Omaha police identified the officer stabbed Thursday outside a Cubby’s Convenience Store as 51 year old Sophia Jordan. Police say Officer Jordan was in a cruiser when an employee approached her about a person, identified as Gary Jackson, trespassing on the property. Jackson was banned and barred from Cubby’s and was attempting to get gas. Employees refused him service. Officer Jordan and another police officer in a different cruiser drove into the lot to speak with Jackson and when Officer Jordan was getting out of her cruiser she was attacked with a knife and fists. Officer Jordan was knocked to the ground and defended herself by kicking Jackson and knocking him to the ground. When ordered to drop the knife Jackson did so and was taken into custody without further incident.
Officer Jordan suffered two cuts and was taken to a hospital by rescue squad. She is in stable condition. Officer Jordan is a 14 year veteran of the department.
