Three access sites along the Elkhorn River in Douglas County will remain closed through the 4th of July holiday. John Winkler is the General Manager of the Papio – Missouri River Natural Resource District and says the recent heavy rain may have caused run-off from farm fields that contained chemicals that could irritate the skin. He says the water is moving fast making it a dangerous situation for boating, tubing and kayaking. He says adding to the danger is a lot of debris in the water.
Elkhorn Crossing, Graske Crossing and the West Maple Road access site are closed. The Platte River Landing site along highway 64 remains open.
