The demolition of the middle school in Pilger will start at 8 am Friday. Superintendent of Wisner – Pilger Schools Chad Boyer says alumni and residents are invited to watch but need to keep their distance. Bricks from the building will be piled in the northwest corner of the lot and alumni and residents who want a keepsake can pick one up.
The building was damaged beyond repair after last month’s deadly tornadoes. Boyer says they salvaged as much as possible from the building in days after the storm but there wasn’t much left. He says along with the roof being torn off, rain and wind damage the building’s sprinkler system also went off.
He says right now they are concentrating on getting ready for school in the fall and that includes reordering supplies and bringing in portable classrooms next to the high school in Wisner. He says it is way too early to start talking about rebuilding and whether or not that would be in Pilger.
