An interim leadership team will guide the United Way of the Midlands in wake of the death of President and CEO Karen Bricklemyer.
The United Way board has promoted Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communication Shawna Forsberg as interim president and Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations Pam Schwalb as interim chief operating officer.
United Way Board President Lance Fritz announced Forsberg and Schwalb’s appointments. Fritz expressed condolences for Bricklemyer’s family.
“The entire community has suffered a great loss,” said Fritz in a written statement released by the United Way. “Karen was well-respected throughout the area, and although her presence will be missed, it will be sustained by carrying out her strategic vision by the talented team she built.”
Fritz said the executive team at the United Way of the Midlands would work to follow through with Bricklemyer’s goal to break the cycle of poverty in the Omaha metro area.
“It will be Karen’s legacy that more children get the additional support they need to be classroom-ready and graduate from high school, and for all young adults to be workforce-ready and achieve financial independence,” Fritz stated.
Bricklemyer’s family requests donations go to the Karen G. Bricklemyer Endowment at United Way of the Midlands. The funding will be directed to community change.
