You may or may not have heard about this new Fall Experimental Football League, known as the FXFL. Well, Omaha has a franchise and they released their name and logo. They’ll be known as the Mammoths. The club chose the name over Channel Cats and Drive.
The league and team wanted a strong name and chose mammoth, a species that disappeared from North America about 10,000 years ago…or 9,987 years before the defunct XFL.
The mammoth, by the way, was designated as Nebraska’s official state fossil in 1967.
“We developed a team brand that accurately depicts the type of team that the Omaha community will want to see on the field: big, strong and unstoppable,” said League Commission Brian Woods.
The league will consist of six teams and play six games. The FXFL does not want to try to compete with the NFL, but the would like to one day partner and become a feeder league.
