Two Americans that contracted Ebola in West Africa are now in the U-S receiving treatment at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. That has many people fearing an outbreak of the deadly virus here. Dr. Angela Hewlett is an infectious disease specialist at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and wants to put those fears to rest.
Dr. Hewlett says, “I can say with 100% confidence this is nothing to worry about.”
The Nebraska Medical Center is one of four facilities in the U-S with a biocontainment unit to treat those with a contagious illness. Dr. Hewlett says she would work with the patient in that unit and would not be not concerned about her personal safety. She is confident the facility is secure and the illness would not spread.
Dr. Hewlett says Ebola is spread by having direct contact with the body fluids of an infected person. She says, “This is not something you can get by sitting on a plane with somebody or by casual contact in any way.”
