A home break in north Omaha ends with the victim shooting the intruder. Omaha Police Public Information Officer Michael Pecha says officers were sent to 3425 Cuming Street at 1:46 Tuesday morning after they received a call of a burglary in progress. Pecha says dispatch then notified officers that one party at the scene was possibly armed. Police located the suspect, identified as 29 year old Jorge Ramirez on the front porch bleeding. A large picture window had been broken out.
Officer Pecha says the victim, 73 year old James Jackson told police he was sleeping when he heard the window break. Jackson then went to check on the window and saw Ramirez crawling through the window. Jackson then fired a shot hitting Ramirez.
Ramirez was taken to CreightonUniversityMedicalCenter in critical condition but he is expected to recover. Officer Pecha says it will be up to the DouglasCounty attorney to decide if charges will be filed against Jackson. It is not known what charges Ramirez will face once he is out of the hospital.
