Those living near the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant north of Omaha will be hearing sirens Tuesday morning. Omaha Public Power District spokesperson Jodi Baker says they will be testing their alert system sometime between 9 and 10 am. The sirens will sound for four minutes. She reminds residents this is only a test and no action is required.
The siren system is designed to alert those who live or work within 10 miles of the Ft. Calhoun Station if there is an emergency at the facility. The test is conducted once a year to ensure the system is working properly.
There are 99 sirens within a 10 mile radius of the plant and all will be tested Tuesday.
