A 26 year old Omaha man is dead and two men are in critical condition after a shooting in north Omaha Thursday afternoon. Omaha police rushed to the 36th and Ames Avenue area and found one man injured by gunfire. Police say a medic unit arrived and gave immediate care but 26 year old Lamar King died at the scene.
Omaha Fire Department and ambulances also rushed to the scene. A vehicle flagged down an engine responding and a victim from that area was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Another vehicle drove one victim to a nearby Omaha Fire Station for help. That victim was then taken by ambulance to a hospital also in critical condition.
Police identified the victims as 18 year old Marcus Johnson and 19 year old Johnnie Wilson.
The shootings happened very close to North High School. Omaha Public School officials say school had been dismissed about 45 minutes before the shooting. The building was not placed in lock-down.
Police have not indicated what sparked the gunfire. There were reports from the scene that several people were detained for questioning but there is no word if there were any arrests.
