Omaha police link earlier robbery with deadly “Cops” robbery

August 29, 2014 By Karla James

Omaha police have linked an earlier robbery with the deadly midtown robbery on Tuesday night in which a crewman from the reality TV show “Cops” was killed.

Police have arrested 24-year-old Jeneva Arias on suspicion of robbing the Little Caesars Pizza at 637 N. Saddle Creek Road. Police say Arias is an associate of 32-year-old Cortez Washington, the suspect in the Wendy’s robbery, killed by police Tuesday night.

The officer who first responded to the Little Caesars robbery, then responded to a robbery in progress at the nearby Wendy’s restaurant.

Two other officers responded to the detective’s call for backup along with the crew from “Cops”. Officers shot and killed Washington after he drew a gun on them. Later, it was learned Washington was armed with an Airsoft pistol, essentially a BB gun.

The sound engineer with the “Cops” crew, 38-year-old Bryce Dion, was caught in the middle of the shooting and died from a shot by a police officer.
