The third American to receive treatment for Ebola in the United States is showing improvement since arriving at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr. Rick Sacra arrived in Omaha from West Africa last Friday.
Dr. Phil Smith, director of the MedCenter’s biocontainment unit, says Sacra isn’t out of the woods just yet.
Sacra is very weak but alert and speaking with staff. Dr. Smith says Sacra is also assisting the medical staff by sharing what he observed in West Africa He provide several tips that may assist in his own treatment.
Dr. Smith says a medication used earlier on two Ebola patients that were treated in Atlanta is no longer available, so they are using a research drug. The name of that drug has not been released.
Meanwhile, the first human study of an Ebola vaccine is underway after showing good success in primates.
