MSU Moorhead 40, Wayne State 36
MSU Moorhead stopped Wayne State on a fourth and goal at the nine yard line on the final play of the game to win a wild 40-36 Northern Sun Conference football game over the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne. The visiting Dragons improve to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the NSIC while WSC is also 1-2 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
The game featured a combined 1,254 yard between the two clubs with a combined six blocked or missed kicks that resulted in a pair of rare, two point PAT returns.
Missouri Southern 34, Nebraska-Kearney 17
Missouri Southern option offense finished with 364 rushing yards and the Lions defense held Nebraska-Kearney in check in a 34-17 win. This was the first meeting between the two since 1988. In front of a Homecoming crowd of 4,515, Southern improves to 1-2 while UNK falls to 0-3. Averaging 397 rushing yards per game last year to rank second nationally, the Lions averaged 5.7 yards per carry.
Colorado School of Mines 33, Chadron State 18
Quarterback Justin Dvorak rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns and added 198 yards and a TD through the air to lead the No. 22-ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers to a 33-18 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Chadron State. Dvorak, a sophomore, was led the Mines’ attack, accounting for 305 of the Orediggers’ 366 yards.
