The Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska Medical Center announced expansion plans at two locations in Omaha. Construction will begin this week at the midtown location at 41st and Emile Streets. The Lauritzen Outpatient Center will house the Fritch Surgery Center, a suite of 10 operating rooms designed for outpatient procedures. Four the rooms will be dedicated to ophthalmic surgery affiliated with the Truhlsen Eye Institute.
A number of clinics located in buildings around the Med Center campus will move to the new facility. The new surgical center allows them to decommission existing operating rooms in UniversityTower and that space will be renovated for other use.
An expansion is also in the works at the UNMC Physicians clinic at Village Pointe, 176th and Burke Streets. A new outpatient surgery center will be built inside the clinic building. That expansion includes more clinic space and diagnostic radiology capacity.
The addition at the Village Pointe location should be complete next year and the new Lauritzen Outpatient Center should be finished in 2016.
