For the first time since the shooting death of Omaha jewelry store owner Jim Minshall, his family is speaking about the tragedy. Police say Minshall was shot and killed last Thursday morning, September 18th during an attempted robbery at J-R’s Jewelry and Gifts at 72nd and Jones Streets.
His daughter Tracey Bland says the family remains in shock. Bland says, “I’m still waiting for him to walk in the front door, waiting to hear his boots click on the tile and ask my mom what’s for dinner. Even though all of the processes have gone, we’ve had the service; it still hasn’t sunk in that my dad is gone.”
Bland says all the support we have received from the community and friends helps a lot. She says because of the number of people that have come forward shows her dad touched a lot of lives. She thanks everyone for all the support.
Bland says the family plans to attend every court date for the suspect, 18 year old Milton Dortch. She says even though police say Minshall was killed during an attempted robbery and the gunman walked out empty handed he robbed them of the most valuable item inside that store – her father’s life.
