The Nebraska women’s bowling team was voted the number one nationally rated team by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Wednesday afternoon. NU received 11 of the 23 first-place votes in the poll (664 points), in front of second-place Arkansas State (four first-place votes, 613 total points). Defending NCAA champion Sam Houston State was third with seven first place ballots (572 points), followed by Vanderbilt, which had the remaining first place vote and 542 points.
Senior Liz Kuhlkin returns to the Huskers after another dominating season, culminating in her second NTCA First-Team All-American honors. Kuhlkin led the Huskers to a second-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Championships in Wickliffe, Ohio (April 10). She solidified the Huskers’ first win of the tournament with a strong total pinfall of 247. She also led the Huskers to a victory over top-ranked Arkansas State with a 237.
The Huskers are set to hit the lanes this afternoon for their first official practice of the 2014-15 season. NU will open up their season at the Crusader Classic in Valparaiso, Ind., on Nov. 7-9.
