The deadline to register to vote in the 2014 statewide General Election is Friday, October 24. Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps says at this late date all registrations must be done in person. Those already registered but moved, changed their name or party affiliation must also update their registrations and the deadline is Friday.
Phipps says, “If you end up not doing that and go to your polling place we may send you to a different polling place if you moved. You may have to fill out some additional paper work. It is a lot easier to just get this done beforehand than wait until Election Day to get it all done.”
The deadline to request a ballot by mail is Wednesday, October 29th. Phipps says those wanting a ballot by mail need to fill out an application that can be printed from local election commission offices and the Secretary of State’s website. Voters can also send a written request for an early ballot that includes name, date of birth, phone number, registered address, where it should be mailed and a signature. You can not request a ballot online or by phone. All early voting ballots must be received by the time polls close on Election Day.
Voters wanting to cast an early ballot in person can do so at their local election commission office through Monday, November 3rd.
