I still think the #14 ranking in the country is a little generous for this young Nebraska volleyball team, but they did a lot of growing up last night in Minnesota against the 25th ranked Gophers. The Huskers (12-6, 6-3 Big Ten) found themselves in a two sets to none hole on the road and were down 16-13 in the third. But NU ralliled to stay alive with a 25-21 win, then take the fourth set 25-19 and finish the final set on an 8-0 run to win 15-7. Junior Kelsey Fien had 14 kills over the final three sets to help lead the charge.
Set 1: Minnesota held Nebraska to .136 hitting clip and forced the Huskers to commit nine errors.
Set 2: Minnesota went up 2-0 on a 25-16 second set win as it hit .406 to Nebraska’s .171.
Set 3: Nebraska won the third set, as the two teams went through 11 tie scores and four lead changes before the Huskers took the lead for good at the 20-19 mark.
Set 4: Nebraska led by as much as 23-15, Minnesota cut to the lead to five, but never got closer.
Set 5: Nebraska hit .714 and won the fifth and deciding set, 15-7. Nebraska put away the match with an eight-point unanswered run.
