United States Attorney Deborah Gilg says 45-year-old Lamar Bertucci, Sr. violated the Bald and Gold Eagle Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act when he shot and killed both a bald eagle and a rough legged hawk near Macy in February.
Bertucci had been convicted of a similar charge before. Bertucci pleaded killing to possessing bald eagle feathers in 2009.
According to federal prosecutors, residents of Macy notified authorities about gunshots near where two bald eagles had been seen on February 10th. A tribal game warden responded and arrested Bertucci after a short chase. Bertucci had a dead bald eagle in his vehicle, according to federal prosecutors.
