Douglas County Election Commission clears counting confusion

November 5, 2014 By Karla James

Incumbent 2nd District Congressman Lee Terry is making an announcement at 1:30 this afternoon regarding Tuesday’s election. The race remains undecided as the Douglas County Election Commission continues to count about 13,000 ballots. At one point Tuesday evening Congressman Terry said the voting had stopped. Election Commissioner Dave Phipps says that rumor was false.

Phipps says, “We’ve never had anybody say we are going to count another 7,000 ballots or whatever and then  stop. That came out of nowhere. For this amount of ballots it just takes that much time to go through the machines. We do this every single election.”

At last check Democrat Brad Ashford leads by 4,000-plus votes.
