Nebraska nurse practitioners are celebrating their profession during National Nurse Practitioner Week, November 9th through the 15th. Peggy Pelish is an associate professor at University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Nursing and says their program allows nurses to focus on specific fields of medicine.
Pelish says, “Nurse practitioners are licensed, expert clinicians with advanced degrees with extensive training in primary, acute and specialty health care services.”
Pelish says nurse practitioners are also helping to fill the doctor shortage gap in many areas of the state.
The UNMC College of Nursing currently has 253 nurse practitioner students enrolled in their master’s program.
