Drivers in Omaha are still complaining about the condition of city streets during Tuesday morning’s commute. An overnight winter storm left roadways ice covered. The Omaha City Council is now reviewing the Public Works Department policy on snow and ice removal.
City Council President Pete Festersen says he didn’t see many city trucks treating streets in his district Tuesday morning. He adds other city council members reported the same thing.
Public Works officials were notified at 10 pm Monday that the forecast had changed to include freezing rain and snow. Crews started treating city streets two hours later but they quickly refroze due to strong wind and they had to reapply de-icing material.
The review is scheduled for Tuesday.
