The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and Nebraska Medicine have entered into an agreement with Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital to provide physician and academic services to a new facility being built in west Omaha. UNMC Chancellor Dr. Jeffrey Gold says this partnership provides a number of benefits.
Dr. Gold says, “This partnership will give us the opportunity to stand up a department of physical medicine and rehabilitation and a residency training program so we can ensure a very high quality pipeline of health care professions to care for the next generations of people from Nebraska. “
An independent study shows Omaha is underserved in physical medicine and rehab services. It shows 1,300 individuals each year are currently referred to nursing homes and other facilities because there is no other option.
Madonna’s Omaha Campus will become the primary training site for new UNMC supported residency program in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
