The Creighton Men’s Basketball team improved to 8-2 with its 24th straight home win, rallying for a 91-88 victory in double-overtime over South Dakota on Tuesday night. The Bluejays led by nine with 2:59 left in regulation, but USD scored on six straight possessions, including a three-pointer by Tyler Larson at the final horn.
Creighton would rebuild its lead in overtime, going ahead 74-67 with 3:05 left. Another Larson trey trimmed the deficit to four, and a three-point play by Brandon Bos cut CU’s lead to 74-73 with 2:06 left. Austin Chatman scored with just under a minute left to put CU up three, only to see Trey Norris sink a trifecta with 34.2 seconds left. Creighton would hold the ball for the last shot, only to see Chatman’s jumper bounce off the rim.
In the second overtime, two free throws by Larson with 3:12 left gave USD its first lead since the 7:51 mark of the second half. Once again Milliken stepped up, sinking a three-pointer to put CU up two and then driving for a lay-up with 1:56 to play as Creighton took a four-point lead.
After Bos made two free throws with 1:38 left, Milliken drained yet another triple to give CU a five-point lead. Avery Dingman split two free throws with 24.7 left, and Creighton held off the Coyotes.
