Despite a game-high 25 points from Shavon Shields, the Nebraska basketball team fell at Iowa, 70-59, on Monday evening in Iowa City. Shields posted his third straight 20-point game and sixth of the season as the Huskers drop to 8-6, 0-2 Big Ten.
Nebraska was in foul trouble most of the first half, and trailed by eight at the break. The Huskers started the second half on a 9-2 run to get to within 37-36 after a Shields layup.
Iowa responded with a 7-0 run to push the lead 44-36, but the Huskers would went on a 9-2 surge, to pull to within 46-45 after a three-point play from David Rivers with 11:32 left.
Nebraska grabbed the lead with 8:09 left when Shields hit two free throws to put the Huskers up 51-50, but Iowa hit three straight three’s for an 11-3 run and never looked back.
Foul trouble an issue for Nebraska. Iowa won the game at the foul line, hitting 31-of-38 from the line to overcome shooting 39 percent, while Nebraska went just 13-of-21 from the line.
The Huskers return to action on Thursday night, as they host Rutgers at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
