A new “home away from home” for families of children receiving care at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha. Media Relations spokesperson Sarah Weller says their current Carolyn Scott Rainbow House has provided families from around the region a place to stay since 1983.
The Rainbow House helps remove the burden of finding and paying for lodging while families are away from home while their child is hospitalized. The 78th and Harney Street house provided lodging for tens of thousands of patient families from across the region and around the world.
On Friday morning, Rainbow House guests will move a few blocks away to their new facility at 7825 Farnam Drive. The old facility had 31 guest rooms, some with shared bathrooms with other guests. The new Rainbow House has 56 guest rooms, all with private baths. There is no formal charge to stay at the Rainbow House but a small suggested donation is welcome.
