A former vice president with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has been chosen to be the new state Economic Director.
Gov. Pete Ricketts has named Brenda Hicks-Sorensen as the new Director of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, after a national search.
Hicks-Sorensen of Malone, Wisconsin served as Vice President of Economic and Community Development for the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation in Madison until March of last year.
At the corporation, Hicks-Sorensen managed a twenty-one member team, a $4.3 million operating budget, and over $34 million in business and community assistance funds.
“As we looked for an innovative leader for the Department of Economic Development, Brenda stood out because of her record of successful recruitment,” Gov. Ricketts said in a written statement released by his office. “Brenda will be an asset to our state as we look for new ways to strengthen our economy, add jobs, and grow Nebraska for the next generation.”
Ricketts is expected to appoint a new CEO of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and the Director of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
