They didn’t quite make it to the hospital.
The Lancaster Sheriff’s Office reports Kevin and Laura Clark couldn’t make it to a Lincoln hospital before Laura delivered twins at the side of a county road.
Captain Ben Houchen says the Clarks made a 9-1-1 call after her water broke, but by the time Southwest Rural Fire and Rescue and two Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, both babies had been born.
“The deputies that were out there, both of them just recently had babies, so they had that experience,” Houchen tells reporters during a briefing.
Kevin and Laura Clark began driving from Barnes, Kansas to Lincoln after Laura complained about pain in her stomach. Kevin pulled over after Laura said her water broke. He called 9-1-1. The twins arrived before emergency crews.
Houchen says the two deputies who responded made certain the twins made it to the hospital afterward.
“I do know that deputies out there were concerned and they were very happy. It’s one of those good-ending stories that everything seems at this point in time seems to have turned out well.”
The newborn boy and girl are now said to be doing well at Bryan East Hospital.
Barnes is located just across the state line, south of Beatrice.
