Nebraska children from 11 communities will be making the trip to Lincoln today for the University of Nebraska Medical Center – College of Dentistry’s Children’s Dental Day. Executive Associate Dean Dr. David Brown says students will provide care for nearly 200 children free of charge.
Dr. Brown says students will provide cleanings and also do extractions, fillings and root canals. He says they will provide about $100,000 in free dental care.
Dr. Brown says they work district health departments, school nurses and some faith based organizations. All the children served either have no access to dental care or can not financially afford it. This year children will be coming from Lexington, Columbus, Norfolk, Lincoln, Crete, Hastings and surrounding areas.
Dr. Brown says this is the 27th Children’s Dental Day and students will conduct another one in the Panhandle region in June.
