Five horses were rescued by the Nebraska Humane Society from a farm in Boone County on Friday.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department sent a request to NHS and three equine team members responded to the call. The owner willing relinquished the animals. Several deceased horses were found also found on the property.
Charges are pending against the owners and the case is currently being handled by Boone County officials.
The horses are now at the Star Equine Rehabilitation facility near Omaha for veterinary care, good nutrition, training and adoption. Officials say the horses are very thin and weak and just eating exhausts them. It will take time to care to get the five horses to a healthy weight.
