Statistics show that a majority of deaths from house fires can be prevented.
Omaha Fire Department Captain Trevor Towey says, “Two out of three of those deaths didn’t have a working smoke detector. How many of those could be prevented by putting a simple battery in your smoke detector every year.”
Captain Towey says if a fire is detected early, that is going to save a life and prevent damage to your home. He says when you change clocks Saturday to daylight savings time make sure to change all the batteries in smoke detectors and in carbon monoxide alarms.
