Ignited by a three-run double by senior Kevin Lamb in the second inning, the Creighton Baseball team defeated Utah Valley 11-3 on Sunday, March 15.
The win gave Creighton the series from the Wolverines, taking three of the four contests to move to 9-7 on the season. Utah Valley, meanwhile, fell to 4-15 overall.
Lamb’s blast opened the scoring as the Bluejays loaded the bases on a walk to junior Harrison Crawford, a single by junior Ryan Fitzgerald and an error that allowed Kevin Connolly to reach. Creighton went on to add four more runs before the second inning was complete, courtesy of an RBI single by sophomore Nicky Lopez, a two-run triple from junior Reagan Fowler and an RBI single by Crawford in his second trip to the dish in the inning.
Utah Valley got two runs in the top of the third, but Creighton added single runs in the third, fourth, seventh and eighth as the offense pounded out 15 hits in the win.
Freshman Rollie Lacy picked up the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, while starter Tommy Strunc was solid in 2.1 innings.
Fowler closed the game with four hits, while Lopez had his best day of 2015 with three hits. Lamb’s final line was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI.
The Bluejays will be back in action on Tuesday, March 17 as Creighton hosts South Dakota State at 6:30 pm.
