The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District Board of Directors approved a construction contract to make improvements to Platte River Landing, a 10 acre recreational area in western Douglas County.
General Manager John Winkler says work will start this spring on a soccer field, volley ball court, playground area, horse shoe pits, and more places along the river to tie boats. Work should be complete by late June or July. Winkler says phase five includes restroom improvements and more lighting. That project could start yet this year or in the spring of 2016. The park will remain open during construction.
Winkler says this is one of few public access points to the Platte River that his heavily used by canoers, tubers, anglers and wildlife enthusiasts.
All Papio-Missouri NRD recreation areas are free to the public and no park entry stickers are required.
