One American aid worker exposed to Ebola in Africa and under observation at Nebraska Medicine – University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha remains in their Biocontainment Unit after developing symptoms Sunday evening. On Monday hospital officials stated that individual had not tested positive for the virus.
This individual is one of four aid workers that arrived together and the three are being monitored carefully for the virus. An additional aid worker exposed to Ebola in Sierra Leone arrived in Omaha Monday and is also under observation.
Dr. Phil Smith is the director of the Biocontainment Unit and says, “When a person has been exposed to Ebola the vast majority of them do not get sick. If they don’t get Ebola they are not a threat to anybody.”
