Playing for their school’s first national championship, The Concordia women’s basketball team jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the title game against Morninside Iowa and built their biggest lead of the game at 26-14, before taking a 30-24 lead into the locker room.
In a tight game in the second half, the Mustangs made a run and with just over 12 minutes to play, Morningside tied the game on a free throw at 41 all. The Bulldogs went back up 53-49, but couldn’t hold off Morningside as Concordia lost 59-57. A great season for Concordia as they finish 35-3.
This was fourth time Morningside beat Concordia this year. The first was a 78-70 loss at home in November. The second came on February 21st, a 77-76 lost in Sioux. The third came in the GPAC championship game, an 80-72 final on March 3rd
“It was an awesome season,” head coach Drew Olson said. “I have never had this much joy and this much fun coaching a team. It is tough to see it end, but I am just thankful that God allowed me to be with this group for as many games as possible.”
