A new report shows there have been more than 260 airport perimeter breaches at our nation’s airports in the last 10 years. Eppley Airport Chief of Police Tom Conahan says there have been three breaches here and one attempted breach.
Chief Conahan says, “Three of them managed to climb over the fence at certain points at the airport and one of them tried to follow an Omaha Airport Authority vehicle through one of their security gates. All of the incidents involved either alcohol or psychological problems.”
Chief Conahan says every time the individuals were apprehended a short distance away from their fence line so they were very fortunate and no one was hurt.
The Eppley Airport Police, according to Chief Conahan, are all sworn officers and the department is certified by the state of Nebraska. He says their jurisdiction is the airport itself, all the tenants of the airport and the traveling public. He adds that part of their duty is to evaluate every aspect of security at the airport on a daily basis and any issues are addressed and corrected right away.
