The Husker Nation is mourning the loss of Adrian Fiala who passed away Monday at age 67. The linebacker played for Nebraska during the Bob Devaney era. Former University of Nebraska Athletic Director and Head Coach Tom Osborne remembers Fiala well.
Osborne says, “He was such a knowledgeable guy about Nebraska football. A lot of passion for Nebraska football and a good friend. I hate to see him go.”
Osborne says the 1969 team was a very important in turned things around after a few bad years. He says the team was gaining confidence and defeated Oklahoma that year and went on to defeat Georgia in the Sun Bowl. Osborne says that Fiala was big part of that.
After hanging up the uniform Fiala’s role with the Huskers didn’t end and was the color commentator during broadcasts for 14 years. According to family, Fiala had been fighting a lung disease for several years.
