A second man has been pronounced dead after an explosion at Nebraska Railcar Cleaning Services in Omaha.
Both were cleaning a rail tanker car.
The explosion blew 40-year-old Dallas Foulk off the top of the tanker. He died after being taken to Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition.
A second worker was trapped inside the tanker car. He was taken from the tanker by rescue crews six hours later and pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The two men were cleaning a rail car when witnesses say there was a blast followed by flames shooting into the air.
“One person was on top of the rail car when the explosion occurred throwing that person onto the ground. It also blew the ladder they used to access the inside of the car out of the car,” says Omaha Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim McCaw.
The cause has not yet been determined, but early indications show the explosion was caused by chemicals inside the tank car.
