Due to the combination of rain and travel restrictions, Sunday’s finale for Creighton Baseball and St. John’s has been cancelled.
Scheduled for a 12:00 pm start, the forecast calls for rain into the early afternoon. In addition the Red Storm are scheduled to return to New York on an early evening flight.
The Creighton Baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision to St. John’s on Saturday, April 18.
The loss moved Creighton back into a tie with the Red Storm for first place in the BIG EAST conference as each team is 6-2. Creighton fell to 21-11 overall, while St. John’s moved to 21-13 on the season.
The Bluejays got the first run of the ballgame in the second inning as junior Brett Murraydrew a leadoff walk, stole second and went to third on an error. One out later Murray came home via an RBI single from junior Harrison Crawford.
That, however, was the only hit of the day for the Bluejays as St. John’s starter Ryan McCormick was lights out the rest of the way. McCormick moved to 6-1 with the win, allowing one unearned run in 7.1 innings. Red Storm closer, Thomas Hackimer, retired the final five Bluejay hitters to earn his seventh save of the season.
Creighton’s Connor Miller suffered the loss (3-1), allowing one run on two hits in an inning of relief.
