Following a 3-1 week for the Nebraska baseball team, including a series win at Northwestern, freshman outfielder Luis Alvarado was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday by the conference office.
Alvarado started three of Nebraska’s four games last week and posted a .500 (5-for-10) batting average. The Salinas, Puerto Rico, native had multi-hit performances in each game he started at Northwestern, including a 2-for-3 game in Sunday’s series clinching win.
In the series finale, Alvarado came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs early in the game and delivered a bases-clearing double that put NU ahead 5-0.
Alvarado is the third NU freshman to earn a weekly award from the Big Ten this year, joining pitcher Garett King and fellow outfielder Elijah Dilday.
