The Nebraska softball team fell one win short of a Big Ten Tournament title Saturday night, losing to third-ranked Michigan, 6-1, in the championship game in Columbus, but there is postseason life for the Huskers.
NU earned an at-large bid but got a tough draw, heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and host LSU. The Tigers are ranked 5th, but spent a good portion of the season ranked #1. The Huskers will open against #24 Arizona State on Friday. Texas Southern is the other team in this regional.
Arizona State ended the regular season with a 34-20 record, and the Sun Devils finished fourth in the Pac-12 Conference, which has six teams ranked in the top 25.
The Huskers were hovering just above the .500 mark, when they got red hot down the stretch. Nebraska climbed more than 20 spots in the RPI rankings by winning 14 of its last 17 games, including a run to the championship game of the Big Ten Tournament. The Huskers will bring a 34-21 record into the NCAA Tournament after finishing in third place in the Big Ten Conference.
