UPDATE: At 10:23 Monday morning, members of the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department on their water rescue boat located a body on the bank of the Elkhorn River about a mile downstream from the West Center Street Bridge. Law enforcement officials confirm the body is that of a small boy.
Omaha Police Department’s Captain Kerry Neumann is with the Criminal Investigation Unit and says, “His identity is believed to be that of Josue Ramirez-Marinero. However, we will have to do forensic identification to confirm the identity of the body.”
Josue and his mother, Jesus Marinero were last seen on May 6th. Her 11 month old son was found alive in a dumpster in La Vista and later that day Marinero was found dead near 4th and Cedar Streets in Omaha.
Marinero’s 25 year old son, Roberto Martinez-Marinero turned himself in to police and he was charged with his mother’s murder. His girlfriend, 24 year old Gabriela Guevara was arrested over the weekend and is charged as an accessory.
Search crews returned to the Elkhorn River today to search for missing five-year-old Josue Ramirez-Marinero. Police say they have reason to believe he was thrown into the river by his older brother last week. Roberto Martinez-Marinero was arrested last week and is accused of killing his mother, Jesus Marinero.
Martinez-Marinero’s girlfriend, 24 year old Gabriela Guevara was arrested over the weekend and is charged as an accessory in the murder of Marinero.
Jesus Marinero’s youngest son, 11 month old Angel was reunited with is family Friday evening. He had been in protective services since last Wednesday after he was found in a dumpster in La Vista.
