The Bruins were down to their last strike and sophomore first baseman Todd Nicks launched a three-run homer off of reliever James Ball in the top of the ninth inning to give the Bellevue University baseball team a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over William Woods University Tuesday afternoon in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Don Roddy Field, in Bellevue.
Bellevue will face #1 seeded Tabor this afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
The Bobcats fell behind 8-0 and 11-1 before they were able to put some offense together. Peru State mounted a comeback, but it was not enough as fifth-seeded Grand View University defeated the Bobcats 12-7 in Grand Rapids, MI. The Bobcats face elimination today when they play Mount Vernon Nazarene, OH., at 11 a.m. CT.
York lost their opening game against Concordia, CA., 2-1. A two-out double put York down 2-0 in the third. They got a run back in the bottom of the 7th after a lead-off walk and wasted a double in the eighth. York is in a must-win situation, playing Dakota Wesleyan, SD.
