An Omaha police officer has died from wounds suffered in a shoot-out this afternoon in the northeast part of the city.
A suspect has also died.
29-year-old Kerrie Orozco died at Creighton University Medical Center where she had been taken in extremely critical condition, according to the Omaha Police Department.
Orozco is the first female Omaha officer killed in the line of duty.
Omaha Deputy Police Chief Dave Baker says Orozco was serving a felony arrest warrant around one o’clock this afternoon with the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force when a shooting broke out.
The suspect, 26-year-old Marcus Wheeler, also died of wounds suffered in the shootout. Wheeler had been wanted in a September shooting. Police had been looking for
Wheeler for months.
